DUNCAN, Okla. (KSWO) – Students at Emerson Elementary School collected more than $2,000 worth of coins to support the Stephens County Humane Society.

Students celebrated the fundraising success with pizza and ice cream as a thank you for their efforts to help the organization.

Stephens County Humane Society volunteers said the fundraiser shows how a collective effort helps everyone win.

“I mean everybody has to win, everybody has to do their part,” said Kara Choate, a volunteer with the Stephens County Humane Society. “One kid might have just brought a dime they found on the couch, and one kid might have brought $50 they found in coins in a piggy bank. Everyone does their part, even if they don’t do that much or that much. Everyone helps, and it takes all of that.”

The Humane Society operates 365 days a year and was grateful for the number of students who participated in the fundraiser.
