New Orleans, la -Dr. C. Bob Basu has begun the American Plastic Surgeons Society (ASPS) as president in the world’s largest government’s certified plastic surgeon. His one -year term began on October 12 at an annual scientific meeting of the organization in New Orleans.
Dr. Basu in Houston conducts Basu aesthetics + plastic surgery and has performed over 18,000 operations during his career. As President of ASS, he said he intended to use technology – including artificial intelligence – to improve how society serves 11,000 members around the world, providing customized education and professional resources.
“Our goal is to maintain the highest standards of education, ethics and patient care by helping citizens to understand the importance of the choice of government certified surgeons,” Dr. Basu said. He stated that as the demand for cosmetic measures was rising, patient safety remains key.
Dr. Basu has held management positions at ASS for almost two decades. As a vice chairman of the economic and treasurer of society, he helped it to guide it through the Covid-19 pandemia and oversed for four years of a record financial result. He is also active in designing health policy and promoting surgical education.
Dr. Basu, a graduate from Princeton University, earned medical and public health degrees from Tufts University and MBA Brande University. He performed a plastic surgery residency at the Baylor College of Medicine’s Michael E. Debakey department.
