In a festival like Venice, each day offers milestones and divos of cinema. Attendees, however, immediately mark a moment in the calendar: the first weekend, when some of the most important films and stars are usually concentrated. And just tomorrow Saturday, big day of the contest, the Spanish actress Karla Sofía Gascón will arrive at the Mostra, to collect the Kinéo award. The awards itself defines them as a “special collateral event” to the festival: they do not belong to any of its official sections, or parallel. The interpreter, awarded as best international actress, is among the 18 winners, next to the film Conclaveby Edward Berger, among others.

He was about not even going to the Oscars. He went, finally, but with a low profile. Since then, things have gradually return to normal. And, now, it is planted at the world’s oldest film festival, awarded as best international actress.
The Kinéo awards are awarded by the homonymous non -profit cultural association. Founded in 2002, with the mission of promoting Italian cinema, he created recognitions “that gave voice to the public of the film rooms, determinants for the life of the industry of the sector, of the exercise and, therefore, of the life of the cinema”, according to its website. That same year, in Venice, the first edition of the awards was presented, held in 2003. To date they were obtained by artists such as Ennio Morricone, Giuseppe Tornatore, Susan Sarandon, Nathalie Portman, Bernardo Bertolucci, Claudia Cardinale or Nastassja Kinski. Now, Gascón adds. The trophy consists of a tower of light on a black base. The actress herself responded to the news through her profile on Instagram, last week. Added a “A thousand thanks”.
