Very far It is the debut as a film director Gerard WHO, that person to whom Mario Casas thanked his Goya award for the interpretation in the film You will not kill, In 2021. “It was wonderful to meet you on this path because you have made me change as an actor,” said the Galician who helped him prepare his role in the tape.
Because WHO, before directing, tried luck as an actor and, later, when he understood that he was not his thing, he did it as an actors coach, houses among them. “The romantic idea of interpreting papers, that theoretical part I loved it. And I saw the actors and actresses, and I thought that was mine. However, when I put myself in that position, in the theatrical exercise, I blocked (…). I left it, I could not,” I recently told the now filmmaker in an interview with the country.
WHO also understood that his experience in that process could help other interpreters. Thus he began his career as coach of actors and, specifically, as the man in the shadow of Mario Casas. Now, four years later, the two premiere Very fara film in which Casas, in the leading role of an antihero fleeing from something in the city of Utrecht, shines under the orders of WHO, according to Carlos Boyero’s criticism on the occasion of the premiere in Salas this week.
“Mario Casas’s interpretation is powerful, always credible, giving life, survival, a certain mystery to an individual who decides to set up his existence in a hostile territory for so many reasons, including the ignorance of the language and having to daily seek daily a dish of food and a shared roof,” explains El País’s critic about the film and the work of Mario Casas.
About the director, Boyero considers that his way of telling this story “is intelligent and honest, showing a nothing kind reality, doing it with subtlety and likelihood.” And he also has praise for the interpretation in another film by another actor, David Verdaguer, who gives life “a wandering and cynical vocation” that gives the tape a certain humor. “The climate that the director creates, without the slightest intention of making a thesis film, is very achieved,” Boyero concludes.
The premiere in theaters of Very far It arrives after winning at the Malaga Festival Dos Biznagas, for better male interpretation and best film for criticism.
