The pianist and prolific composer Felipe Campuzano has died at age 79 in his home in Marbella, as sources close to the family have confirmed to Efe. Campuzano, who lived in Marbella for years, in the residential area of Las Cumbres, has been found lifeless this morning, about 10:00 hours, in her home.

The pianist, born in Palma de Mallorca but linked to Cádiz since childhood, lived only in Marbella, where he was based for years, and even became director of the Conservatory of Music of this city of Malaga. Campuzano composed songs for numerous artists, with topics well known as Driver friend o My boyfriend does not like the miniskirt, And he was arranger of songs like Achilipú o I’m loving you locally.

Born in Cádiz in 1945 and spurred by a family of musicians, he attended the piano career at the Conservatory of Cádiz and completed piano and composition studies in Madrid, where he won the National End of Career Award. It would not be the only distinction of its long career, with other national and international distinctions such as Manuel de Falla, the Golden Sagittarius of the Academy of Santa Cecilia of Rome or the first prize of the London Festival.

In the most purely flamenco field, he was closely linked to Beni de Cádi, with which he collaborated on the album This is my song (1990), but also paid tribute to the Jerez pack with guitarist Manolo Sanlúcar. Always original in his inspirations, he came to dedicate eight years to compose an album to the school ship Juan Sebastián Elcano, Music and poems for the sea (2002), in compliance with a promise that made the father of King Juan Carlos, Don Juan de Borbón.

The City of Cádiz has decreed a day of mourning for the death of the pianist. The city’s flags, in full carnival celebration, waved half a burning as a sign of mourning for the death of the pianist. The mayor of the city, Bruno García, has transferred in the name of the Municipal Corporation his condolences to the relatives of the Gaditano pianist, “a real reference of music in our country that always took Cádiz in his soul and in his heart,” he explained in statements released by the Consistory.
