Champleve v Hill Society, 1998 Arkle
Few finishes have been as tight as when Champleve and Hill Society blink past the message together in the 1998 Arkle. Certainly no Cheltenham festival photo has been considered longer.
Champleve was a partner with Tony McCoy, while Richard Dunwoody was in Hill Society, which means that the two largest jumps of all time were going to the head. It was just one of the many fascinating lower appearances, David Johnson, owner of Champleve, held a 25-1 Ant-Post coupon with his horse and Hill Meade was desperate for his first victory at the festival.
