Through the Venice Festival, the beaches of Sorrento or in the captivating nightlife of Rome, Sophia Loren, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Brigitte Bardot, Orson Welles… and our cañís divas stroll!
The artistic trajectories of Lola Flores, Carmen Sevilla and Sara Montiel coincide in presenting numerous connections with Italy: the film debut of Lola Flores under the direction of Fernando Mignoni and her explosive collaborations with Raffaella Carrà, the participation of Carmen Sevilla in the Italian co-production Spanish Bread, love and… Andalusia directed by Javier Setó in 1958 together with Vittorio de Sica and the film life of Sara Montiel, who fell in love inside and outside the big screen to several Italian leading men and who tried to “redeem” herself from her fame as a femme fatale with an unfortunate wedding held in Rome.
In this book, the result of her research at the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome, Lidia García -creator of!Oh, campaneras!– explores the links between these three popular film stars, Spanish song and the Italian cultural panorama of the time.
Sevillian tarantellaa wonderful book, full of anecdotes, incredible stories and unpublished photographs, offers a detailed analysis of this fascinating cultural transfer with an air of tarantella and the spirit of copla.
Lidia García (Montealegre del Castillo, 1989) is a researcher and disseminator. Doctor in Art History from the University of Murcia with a thesis on copla and practices camp.
Graduated in Humanities from the University of Alicante, she received an extraordinary end-of-degree award and obtained a mention for academic excellence from the Generalitat Valenciana. He has also won first national prize in the XV Contest for Introduction to Scientific Research of the Ministry of Education.
Collaborate in the programs Neighborhood Cinema of Spanish Television, Tomorrow more of Radio Nacional de España, in The Window of La Ser and is the author of podcast Oh, campaneras! and of book of the same title. His second book, Sevillian tarantellais the result of a research scholarship at the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome.
Juan Naranjo (Málaga, 1983) is a literary translator, book club coordinator and author. Translates books from English and Italian for Spanish publishers. He is passionate about encouraging reading and believes that reading clubs are a way to enjoy an activity traditionally understood as solitary in community.
