At this point, it’s hardly news that non-alcoholic and low-alcohol products occupy a large position on beverage shelves in the United States. After several years of double-digit growth, the underclass can certainly no longer be considered a passing trend. But a surprising factor in this continued movement has been high-priced brands – especially in the wine region. According to IWSR Drinks Market Analysis data, premium-plus products accounted for 87 percent of the growth in non-alcoholic wines in 2022-2023.

These are promising numbers for the latest entry. Society De La Rassi launches this week with a top shelf sparkling wine made from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown in La Mancha, Alcázar de San Juan, Spain. A non-alcoholic 0.5% ABV, the sophisticated sipper is set to retail at $70 a bottle. This is why the juice is worth squeezing.

“I couldn’t find anything in the current non-alcoholic winery that really matched my interests,” explains Society De La Rassi founder Steve Jackson. “So few brands exist with the heritage or iconic experiences of centuries-old champagne houses. I wanted to contribute to bridging that gap and offer something that elevates the class without having ‘non-alcoholic’ be front and center on the label.”

True to their word, the brand’s packaging really conveys old-world elegance. But what’s inside the glass is even higher. The wine underwent a unique vacuum distillation process to maintain a crisp yet round body. To maintain a depth not normally seen in non- and low-ABV liquids, approximately 1.2 grams per liter of natural grape must was added back to the liquid before capping.

Society De La Rassi names its new flagship “Neue Brut” because of its low sugar content with the traditional Brut Champagne. However, since this one does not have a significant ABV, it is much lower in calories than its alcoholic counterparts. A glass of fizzy Spanish serving corresponds to 15 calories compared to around 100 in a serving of traditional sparkling wine.

The up-and-coming brand from Los Angeles is confident that today’s consumers will see the $70 price tag as a feature rather than a bug. It positions its products as a mix of luxury and timeless tradition with modern innovation. Neue Brut is just the beginning.

“Society de La Rassi is inspired by luxury heritage brands such as Louis Vuitton and Hermès,” says Marketing Director Wesley Davis. “We love the idea of heritage and despite being a new brand, we want to bring a timeless, high-quality feel to our design. Everything, from the grapes to the glass, is of high quality.”

Society de La Rassi is now available online and at select retailers nationwide in single 750ml bottles for $70 SRP and 6-bottle packs for $420 SRP.
