Netflix has confirmed a second season of the controversial series Ancient Apocalypse, starring Graham Hancock, joined by Hollywood big man Keanu Reeves. In the second season of the ITN Productions series, a British journalist and author heads to America in search of evidence to support his hypothesis that an advanced civilization disappeared into history in a series of cataclysms that brought the last ice age to an apocalyptic end 12,800 years ago. and 11,600 years ago. Each episode explores new discoveries being made in the Americas, which until recently have been largely understudied by archaeologists interested in the origins of mankind. The episodes take place in places like New Mexico, Peru and Brazil.

Matrix icon Reeves joins Hancock throughout the series to discuss his views on storytelling as a means of cultural preservation.

The series launched in 2022 and was well-reviewed according to Netflix, but it hasn’t been without controversy. According to The Guardian , indigenous groups in Arizona objected to Season 2 being filmed in the state, although ITN has said that decisions about the filming location were made editorially. Season 1 led to the Society for American Archeology publishing an open letter to Netflix content boss Bela Bajaria and ITN CEO Rachel Corp, accusing the show of “publicly denigrating archaeologists and devaluing the archaeological profession based on false claims and disinformation.”

Hancock said: “Exploring the mysterious origins of civilization has been a passion of mine for many years. The Americas have been largely unexplored in this context, and my aim for the series was to explore compelling new evidence that I hope can spark healthy conversation in the archaeological community.”

Ian Russell, head of international programs at ITN Productions, added: “Graham is known as a disruptor who challenges conventional ideas about this period of history and uses his journalistic skills to speak to experts and indigenous people to put his theories to the test.”
