ISSUP stands for International Society of Substance Use Professionals. ISSUP provides a forum for professionals to exchange information and experience, collaborate to develop effective interventions and policies, and promote education and training.

The organization aims to promote evidence-based practices, support the professionalization of the field, and strengthen the cooperation of addiction and substance abuse professionals and organizations. ISSUP organizes conferences, training, webinars and other events to promote information exchange and capacity building.

In short, ISSUP plays an important role in supporting and empowering professionals worldwide who are committed to the prevention and treatment of problematic substance use and addiction.

The theme of the previous conference was the art of healing, which emphasized the prevention of substance abuse and addiction and the importance of support factors in the treatment of young drug and alcohol addicts.

There were 123 countries represented by 800 participants, including psychiatrists, psychologists, doctors, social workers and researchers. Trainings were organized in small groups and large facilities, where the latest developments in drug and alcohol prevention and addiction treatment were given.

The purpose is also to establish an ISSUP chapter in the Caribbean, which will encourage more interaction between actors in the region, in order to further share information.
