King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima spend the last day of their four-day working visit in New York. The couple will visit the East Flatbush neighborhood, walk the High Line and meet with local politicians and representatives of American and Dutch companies.

Walking through East Flatbush, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, is all about “community empowerment.” Residents tell the royal visit how they cope together with challenges such as the climate and affordable housing. The neighborhood has a large African-American community: in 2022, more than three-quarters of residents were people of color.

In the afternoon, Willem-Alexander and Máxima will visit the exhibition New York Before New York: The Castello Plan of New Amsterdam. The New York Historical Society exhibit highlights an important part of the history of Dutch New York. The role of different communities, including natives and enslaved people, in New Amsterdam is central. New Amsterdam was founded in 1625, exactly 399 years ago this year, when Fort Amsterdam was built in Manhattan.

Before ending the visit, the couple will walk in the High Line park along the old railway line. The park runs from the Meatpacking District to Hudson Yards and is a popular tourist attraction. The four-day working visit ends with a meeting with local politicians and American and Dutch companies.
