Geriatric specialist medicine is still unknown internationally, only in the Netherlands is it a recognized specialty. Verenso wants to share his knowledge and experience of experts in geriatric medicine with an international network. Membership officially starts on January 1, 2025.

International network

Verenso hopes that EuGMS membership will contribute to the academicization of the profession in the Netherlands. “It strengthens access to an international network of experts, promotes the exchange of ideas and strengthens cooperation,” says Jos Schols, professor of geriatric medicine. “This promotes the quality of patient care, the attractiveness of education and research on the further development of long-term care knowledge in general care and especially in geriatric medicine. Patient care, research and education are therefore connected in a natural way.”

EuGMS

The mission of EuGMS (European Geriatric Medicine Society) is to develop geriatrics in the broadest sense of the word as a recognized and independent medical specialty in all member states, which promotes the treatment of elderly people with all age-related diseases.

At the EuGMS General Assembly, Anne Belonje, Quality Director of Verenso and Jos Schols, presented Verenso and the globally unique specialty of geriatric medicine.

The Dutch Association of Clinical Geriatrics (NVKG) has been a member of EuGMS for some time.
