The Dead Poet Society is alive and well and has been in good spirits for quite some time. The band from Boston has been cruising through Europe for three weeks with a new second album FISSION under the arm. Reply to follower -!- was generally mostly positive and with radio-friendly riffs, they attract a mainly young audience. That crowd easily found their way to Trix because the club had been hopelessly sold out for some time. The band is enjoying a growing popularity and they showed us that this was justified with a rigorous guitar lesson filled with adrenaline and energy.

Was the Prince ready? At least Canada’s support act looked determined, which couldn’t be directly said for the rather poor sound mix. The trio’s compact sound came out of the speakers rather messy and wooden during the first song. Especially the overly loud drums added salt to the soup and overpowered the guitars and vocals. Anyway, it wasn’t because of the songs, because you have to admit that most of them had a lot of fire and a nice energy. Musically, Ready The Prince matched well with Dead Poet Society and were sure to get the crowd going with the last two songs. In other words, those who came to Dead Poet Society got to know a great band with Ready The Prince.

It was hardly noticeable that Americans of Dead Poet Society had already performed several shows on this European tour. The opener “Hard to Be God” was full of enthusiasm and delivered with great energy. Manager Jack Underkofler couldn’t resist diving right into the crowd and willingly giving himself support. There was fire in the opening stage, because with the song “Running in Circles” they played a real crowd favorite as the second song of the young night. The choir was loudly singing along and at the front of the hall we could actually spot the first modest mosh pit. The only thing missing was a few people walking in circles, but that didn’t stop the excited energy that hung and lingered. The new tall player said “I hope you hate me.” maybe not the most famous song, but Nelonen put together a great version on stage that was enjoyable.

Dead Poet Society were also guilty of a certain routine, which isn’t surprising if you’ve been on tour for a few weeks. Certain automatisms were clearly heard, although it didn’t matter and the band made the band even tighter and fatter. The band’s fans ate right out of his hand with the enthusiastically received “.AmericanBlood.” and even better “HURT”. The powerful edge created a bombastic wave of fat guitars that inevitably rolled over us. The mosh pit logically became a little bigger and, above all, more intense. Slightly less intense, on the other hand, was “Tipping Point”. The Americans’ goal-scoring side offered a small lake of light and a rare moment of rest in the series.

The quartet never sold out the show for nothing, although sometimes they really got lost in the songs. “81 Tonnes” was performed with great gestures, “.SALT” got an even dirtier look, and “LoAir” was finally equipped with more than a fixed breakdown. In other words, the pace was good and the songs followed each other at high speed. However, Underkofler occasionally took time to maintain and further strengthen the connection with the audience with a few unifying texts. After a solid performance of “Uto”, the band thanked the sold-out audience, which they obviously didn’t take for granted so far from their homeland. Hands clapped again and moshers chanted “.CoDA.” a chance to end with a bang.

Or did the band have something else? Of course they had. A short encore consisted of “My Condition” and “.Intoodeep.”, songs that any fanatical fan could sing along to word for word. So Dead Poet Society started with cool guitars and ended with cool guitars. In that sense, they gave the Belgian audience exactly what they came to the Noordersingel Music Center for. It rarely, if ever, sounded innovative, but with a convincing performance and strong rock songs, they made it just a nice concert. At the end, the band hinted that they will soon return to our country, and if you know that they will be in the area again in August, you know that the gig will most likely take place in a meadow in Hasselt.
