The obituary of Santiago Vara Herraiz, published last Saturday, has caught the attention of practically all Tenerife residents. The text, which has quite funny parts, defines him as “founder of the acrobatic group ‘The Varini’, invisible rope puller, tamer of tailgallis, lord of the mountain and shareholder of Krüger.”

Vara Herraiz died last Friday, February 9, at the age of 68. And according to the words dedicated to him in his obituary, he must have been a man with a unique personality and a great sense of humor, as well as a “devourer of nuts.”

The farewell, full of affection, includes that Santiago Vara Herraiz was “chess champion at home, devourer of nuts, procrastinator, atheist, faggot, anarchist, open-minded, and more up front. The last great ceramist of the Canary Islands, the man who could have been gay, composer and only interpreter of the song ‘El bichito Lele’, as well as a “good father” and “best lover”.
