– On April 20, 250 women of a certain age meet at the Van der Valkhotel. Dressed in purple with a red hat, it’s hard to ignore the annual meeting of this almost secret society.

The Red Hat Society was founded in America in 1998. Initially as a joke among aging friends who wanted to celebrate their age instead of sitting behind geraniums at 50. Wearing a “ridiculous red hat” they went to the tearoom, which proved to be a hit. Several chapters soon emerged, and the Red Hat Society is now a worldwide organization with hundreds of thousands of members. The only rule is the red-purple dress code.

During the convention, carefree laughter and enjoyment are central with performances by local celebrities such as Bennie Solo, Tom Meuwesen, Uit je Dakkapel and ID-dance!. The world-famous opera singer Amira Willighagen will also perform. The afternoon session will be opened by Mayor Hubert Bruls.
