New York Mets minor leaguer Khalil Lee is being accused of physical and verbal abuse by an ex-girlfriend and Syracuse police have issued a warrant for the 24-year-old on the charge of criminal obstruction of breath.
Lee is specifically accused of pulling his now-ex-girlfriend’s hair and choking her during an argument on May 7, 2022. Major League Baseball has opened an investigation into the claims, which were made in a federal lawsuit filed on Wednesday.
‘The Mets immediately notified MLB upon becoming aware of the allegations,’ the Mets said in a statement. ‘We will fully comply with MLB’s policy and cannot comment until the completion of the league’s investigative process.’
Lee has played in only 13 Major League games, but is currently on the Mets’ 40-man roster. The Delaware native played for the Mets’ Triple-A affiliate in Syracuse for portions of the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
Syracuse police did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com’s request for confirmation.

Lee’s accuser is his former girlfriend, 26-year-old Brooklyn resident Keriwyn Hill.
According to her lawsuit, obtained by DailyMail.com, the two became romantically involved after meeting on social media in 2021 shortly after his MLB debut with the Mets. Their relationship lasted through the summer and even after he was demoted to Triple-A Syracuse, where Hill would regularly visit Lee.
They broke up in September of 2021, but remained in contact and in May of 2022, Lee requested that Hill visit him again in Syracuse.
It was during that visit, Hill claims, that Lee told her he was interested in getting back together. But later that night, on May 6, Hill claims she saw intimate text messages from another woman on lee’s phone, leading to an argument.
In the early hours of May 7, Hill claims, Lee kicked her in her thigh, causing her to fall and cry. Lee allegedly responded by calling her dramatic and ugly, prompting her to slap him in his face, according to Hill.
The lawsuit states that Hill attempted to walk away from Lee, but was stopped when he grabbed her by her braids and ‘yanked her backwards’ into the kitchen table. It was then that Lee allegedly began choking Hill, she claims in her lawsuit.
Lee is accused of choking her for 10 to 15 seconds before letting go.
Hill says she ended up at a hotel that night, where she documented her injuries. She reported the incident to the Public Safety Building the following day, and an arrest warrant was signed for Lee on August 10, 2022, charging him with misdemeanor criminal obstruction of breath.

Wednesday, Hill and her attorney Milton Williams filed a lawsuit against Lee in the Northern District of New York, citing her physical and emotional distress she suffered as a result of Lee’s alleged attack.
Lee was a pitcher and outfielder at Flint Hill School in Oakton, Virginia when he was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the third round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He would sign with the Royals for $579,000 and reported to the Arizona League.
He was ranked as the Royals’ top prospect entering the 2018 season and was later named to the Carolina League All-Star team that year.
He missed the 2020 season as the minors went on hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic, but returned with the Mets organization in 2021 following an off-season trade.
He has only two hits in 13 MLB at-bats in 2021 and 2022, striking out 13 times while driving in four runs.
