Within the framework of the II Conference of Contemporary Music of Nerja, La Térmica joins this initiative by hosting the Conversation between Generations activity, a concert by the Zahir Ensemble group, which complements our institution’s commitment to the dissemination of this musical genre, through experimentation and showing the richness of the musical of the 20th and 21st centuries.
The trajectory of the Sevillian group supports its commitment to the interpretation of the great repertoire of our time, with great aesthetic variety and greater artistic and historical relevance. From the moment of its foundation, Zahir Ensemble immediately aroused the interest of young and experienced performers, both in Spain and internationally.
The national and international career of Zahir Ensemble has led it to appear in practically all Spanish contemporary music festivals and in many of the best venues in the country, as well as to tour through Austria, France and Poland. He has starred in the premieres in Spain of works such as “The Fall of the House of Usher” by Philip Glass, “In vain” by GF Haas, “ASKO Concerto” by Elliott Carter, “Ballet mécanique” (original version) by G. Antheil , “Proverb” by Steve Reich or “Clouds of forgetting, Clouds of unknowing” by John L. Adams.
Testimony of this commitment is the regular commissioning and premiere of pieces by some of the most prominent composers on the current scene of Spanish composition. It also organizes its own cycle in the city of Seville, which this year marks its fourteenth edition.
In addition, he has various recordings available on the record market, highlighting monographs dedicated to José María Sánchez Verdú, Schoenberg, Eneko Vadillo and César Camarero. He has also released two albums with music by young Spanish composers, published by Injuve. New recordings will be released soon, including works by Reinhard Febel, Leos Janácek and Alberto Ginastera.
