The news was given to him by a teacher and a janitor at his institute. “They asked me to leave class and open an envelope. Inside it there was a paper where she said that she was nominated for the Goya for best new actress. I asked them to pinch me because I thought it was a dream,” recalls Clàudia Malagelada (Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Barcelona, 16 years old). The promising performer has made her big screen debut with Creature, the film by Elena Martín Gimeno that delves into the secrets of female desire. A journey celebrated by critics and the public that, regardless of what happens at the gala on February 10, has already changed Malagelada forever: “My schemes have been broken. Now if I think about not having the opportunity to act again, I die.”
Creature It is a look at the desire and repression that surrounds the female sex. Has it had any effect on you?
My vision has changed. In my group of friends, for example, we had many taboos. Guys talk freely about masturbation, but we don’t. Suddenly I wanted to know more about their sexuality or what repressions they have had, and we saw that we shared many feelings about it.
And what is the reason for that blush you speak of?
There are a thousand factors, but since we were little we have seen that male genitalia provoke laughter while female genitalia cause disgust. Everyone draws cocks everywhere, they are super funny and, on the other hand, a pussy is embarrassing, it is taboo. It is very strong that they have made us feel disgusted with our own bodies.
He has had the opportunity to walk the red carpet at Cannes. How was the experience?
I was so happy and so focused on looking good in the photos that my memory is a bit blurry. She told me: “Claudia, don’t fall, don’t make a fool of yourself, this is not going to happen again.” I enjoyed every moment, I didn’t want to go to bed so the days wouldn’t end. Sleep is not important in Cannes.
He also coincided with Queen Letizia at the premiere of the film at the Atlántida Film Fest.
She was very nice, very close. I was not aware that she had spoken to the Queen until after the conversation because I did not imagine such a pleasant moment. She asked me how old she was. I told her 16 and she replied: “Oh, like my daughter!”
Have you already thought about a possible speech if you win the Goya?
Now that I’m nominated I’m afraid to think about it because it’s something very heavy. I am extremely addicted to watching videos of others who have won it to analyze the situation, like Anna Castillo, who is a reference. And it makes me laugh because my grandfather sends me videos of actresses who won the Oscar to serve as an example for me.
