Fridays from May 3 to June 28 | From 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

From 13 to 17 years

€ Prior registration required

All classes will begin with a brief theoretical introduction explaining the basics of what character and prop design is on a professional level. The bulk of the activity will focus on the practical aspect, different styles of art will be studied so that attendees can create designs from scratch.

Several of the points that will be seen in said workshop will be:

  • Starting point: How to approach a design from scratch.
  • Proportions: It depends on the project, what aesthetics will my characters and props have?
  • Silhouettes: Make a design recognizable at a glance.
  • Psychology: With just a couple of gestures, convey what the character feels.
  • Interpretation: How to adapt the drawing style to fit what other artists have done.
  • Posture: Read the character’s intentions through their body.
  • Details. More details does not mean better design. How much did I spend?
  • Designer Examples: Great prop and character designers can help develop my style.

The content of the workshop has been structured with a youth audience between 13 and 17 years old in mind, who are interested in getting started in this field of drawing and design. The ideal number of attendees would be 15 to 20 people.

Taking into account the content and programmed activities, a duration of ten weeks has been estimated, one class per week lasting two hours each, and a price of €50 per attendee.

The objective of these activities is to take an approach to 2D design, focused on characters and props, so that attendees develop a solid and documented base, in order to have an adequate starting point.

No pressures or demands of any kind, just pencil paper and imagination. There is no bad drawing style, anyone can have their own, both for personal projects and for animation or video game studios. For this, different aesthetics will be studied according to the latest artistic trends.

Pablo Burgos. Graduate in fine arts from the University of Malaga. Graduate in Graphic Arts from Escola Joso del Cómic y Artes Visuales de Barcelona. Experience as a 2D designer (props and characters) at Brown Bag Fillms (Ireland) and Skrice Studios (Hanoi).
